Curriculum

The curriculum below is made up of 10 core lessons based on leading research experts in the field of hope. It is intended for the classroom, but can be used in girl / boy scout camps, after school programs, and more. We suggest you do five lessons in the fall, and then five again in the spring; but again it is flexible so you can choose to do them however it works best for you.

While it is targeted to 5th graders initially, we hope to develop curriculum for additional age groups as the program progresses. If you would like to assist us in expanding our lessons to other grade levels, please do reach out to us at schoolsforhope@ifred.org.

For additional resources, please see the sidebar where you will find important information for educators and families, separate student worksheets for easy download, and supplemental lessons that support our core curriculum.  Schools for Hope currently meets the Social and Emotional Learning Standards (SEL) for the State of Illinois.  Other countries and states may find these guidelines incredibly useful when viewing/teaching the curriculum as they may be universally applied.

We invite and welcome you to please review, share, and provide feedback on each lesson plan below.  Please sign up for our newsletter, as we plan to update our supporters as we develop the program.  If you plan to teach, we would love to hear from you. Simply e-mail us at schoolsforhope@ifred.org and thanks again for your interest in teaching our children that there is always hope.
